Dominican Republic Fashion week - Dominicana Moda, Damaris Rubio, casa de campo living The Dominican Republic Fashion Week took place from the 28th of April through to the 2nd of May, in the Dominican Republic’s capital city of Santo Domingo. The event was a glamourous affair with numerous talented Dominican designers showcasing their fashion creations alongside a number of International designers. On Friday the 30th of May I was lucky enough to experience the Dominican Fashion week for myself, accompanied by a rather jolly group of ladies from Casa de Campo. Our tickets, purchased through the Hogar del Niño were for the Jacqueline Then, Jorge David and Damaris Rubio fashion shows – all of which were spectacular. (To read my lively account of the trip with the ladies, click here – this account focuses a little more on the actual fashion.) The show began with the entrance of 4 very handsome men giving out chocolate covered fruits – this certainly got the audience excited! First on the runway was Jacqueline Then’s ‘Provocateur: resort collection 2011’ a sexy collection of colorful mini-dresses, perfect to provoke admiration in the Domincan’s sultry summer months. [nggallery id=368] Following a short pause, Jorge David’s collection hit the runway, which was absolutely stunning – an array of colorful, inventive, sexy and alluring ladies dresses in short and fun styles to elegant longer gowns. Gorgeous! [nggallery id=369] The final show to hit the runway was the collection by Damaris Rubio, who recently showcased a mini-collection in Casa de Campo during the V Torneo de Polo. This collection was for me, the highlight of the night, with designs for both men and women which were interesting, unique, colorful, beautifully tailored and practical – I fell in love with almost everything!
