The following is a press release from the Marina Casa de Campo about the Rolex Farr 40 event which took place last week from the 21st to the 25th of April in the Marina Casa de Campo. (Nota de Prensa en Español abajo.)

Spectacular closure of the Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010 at Casa de Campo Marina
La Romana, April 24th 2010._ After four days of intense physical effort, the boat Nerone won the Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010, celebrated for the first time on Caribbean shores, with the Casa de Campo Marina as main scenario.
The crew from Nerone was commanded by the Italians Massimo Mezzoroma and Alberto Signorini, who maintained during the four days an arduous fight with the Australian Guido Belgiorno-Nettis on board of the Transfussion and the American Jim Richardson and his Barking Mad.
Since the beginning of the regatta, these three boats maintained their leadership on the first places, with very close scores from one another.
On the first day, the regatta was sponsored by Casa de Campo, and Transfussion took the first place, followed by Barking Mad on the second place and Nerone on the third. The winners got a beautiful replica of a scale Farr 40 boat inside a glass and mahogany box.
The second day was outlined as a good scenario, but the weather conditions quickly changed, forcing to cancel the competitions hours later because of the lack of wind and some showers during the day.
On Friday, with renewed enthusiasm, the competition restarted and they achieved an overall of four races, to compensate the previous day. The third award event was sponsored by Land Rover, who prepared a cocktail party and gathered a large group of important personalities of the Dominican Republic, to honor these fabulous athletes. The Italians of Nerone took the first price after closely surpassing Transfussion, their gratest competition from the event, and Barking Mad on the third place.
A radiant sun and the perfect breeze conditions, welcomed the fourth and last day of the Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010
With a difference of only two points, Nerone took the cup by defeating Transfussion, who ended up on second place followed by Barking Mad on third.
Mezzaroma celebrated victory effusively with his crew as they crossed the line, but ashore was more circumspect, “this Worlds has a lot of meaning for us because my co-owner and helmsman Antonio Sodo Migliori had a very bad accident one month ago. And we’ve done this for him and another guy, Simon, who’s been sailing with us for ten years. These two guys are injured at home and it is very important for us to get this result.”
Mezzaroma continued, “after last year at the Worlds in Sardinia we were a bit sad because losing in the last race of the series is very tough. This time we won! Sometimes it comes, sometimes it goes.” As for 2011 and the Rolex Farr 40 Worlds in Sydney, Mezzaroma was honest, “we were thinking of not going because we are becoming old, everyone has family and kids. But at this point there is no chance that we are not going!”
The 2011 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship will take place February 23 – 26, 2011 in Sydney, Australia.

Espectacular final del Mundial de Vela en la Marina de Casa de Campo
Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010
La Romana, 24 de abril 2010._ Luego de cuatro días de intenso esfuerzo físico, la embarcación Nerone se coronó campeonón del Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010, celebrado por primera vez en aguas del Caribe con la Marina de Casa de Campo como escenario principal.
El equipo de Nerone estuvo capitaneado por los italianos Massimo Mezzoroma y Alberto Signorini, quienes mantuvieron durante los cuatro días una ardua lucha con el australiano Guido Belgiorno-Nettis al frente de la embarcación Transfussion y el estadounidense Jim Richardson y su embarcación Barking Mad.
Desde el inicio de la regata estas tres embarcaciones se mantuvieron en los primeros lugares, con puntuaciones muy cercanas unas de otras.
El primer día de la regata fue patrocinado por Casa de Campo, y resultó ganador del primer lugar Transfussion, seguido por Barking Mad en segundo lugar y Nerone en tercero. Los ganadores recibieron una hermosa réplica de un velero Farr 40 a escala enmarcada en cristal y caoba, madera de nuestro árbol Nacional.
El segundo día de la regata se perfiló como un buen escenario, pero las condiciones del clima cambiaron con el paso de las horas, lo que obligó a que horas después de iniciada la competencia esta fuera suspendida debido a la falta de viento y las lluvias del día.
El viernes, con nuevos bríos, se retomó la competencia y se realizaron un total de cuatro carreras para compensar el día anterior. La tercera premiación estuvo patrocinada por Land Rover, quien preparó un cóctel con una amplia concurrencia de personalidades importantes del país para premiar a estos fabulosos atletas. Los italianos de Nerone se llevaron el primer premio luego de sobrepasar estrechamente a Transfussion, sus grandes competidores del evento, y Barking Mad en tercer lugar.
Un sol radiante y las perfectas condiciones del viento, dieron la bienvenida al cuarto y último día de la Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010. Con una diferencia de tan solo dos puntos, Nerone se llevó la copa al vencer a Transfussion, quien quedó en segundo lugar y Barking Mad en tercero.
Mezzaroma celebró la victoria efusivamente con su equipo mientras cruzaban la meta. Al regresar a tierra expresó “este Mundial tiene un gran significado para nosotros porque mi socio Antonio Sodo Migliori tuvo un grave accidente hace un mes. Hemos hecho esto por él y por otra persona, Simon, quien ha navegado con nosotros por diez años. Estas personas están lesionadas en casa y es muy importante para nosotros obtener este resultado.”
Mezzaroma continuó “después de lo sucedido en el Mundial del año pasado en Cerdeña estuvimos un poco tristes porque perder en la última carrera de la serie es muy duro. ¡Esta vez ganamos! A veces viene, a veces se va”. Con respecto al 2011 y el Rolex Farr 40 Worlds en Sidney, Mezzaroma fue honesto, “estabamos pensando en no ir porque nos estamos haciendo viejos, todos tienen familias e hijos. ¡Pero en este punto no hay manera de que no vayamos!”
En el 2011, Rolex Farr 40 World Championship será celebrado del 23 al 26 de Febrero en Sydney, Australia.
