With so many hurricanes (Hurricane Katia, Hurricane Nate and Tropical Storm Maria) floating around in our part of the world – it’s no wonder the weather in Casa de Campo La Romana has been a little “disturbed.” So what can we expect for the next few days and more importantly will this wild weather ruin our weekend?
Rebecca’s Weekend Weather Forecast
(Please remember I am a weather enthusiast not a weather expert)
Friday, Sept 9th (Today) – RAIN
Based on the 60% chance of rain and my observations from my bedroom window (its raining now), I would say that it is VERY likely it will rain in the Casa de Campo La Romana area of the Dominican Republic today!
Saturday, Sept 10th – NO RAIN
The weather forecast says there is a 40% chance of rain, which at this time of year is pretty low – on average the chance of rain seems to be at least 60% right now.
So I say: NO RAIN on Saturday – first of all because there is a golf tournament I need to photograph on the Teeth of the Dog, and secondly there is a Ballet Performance in Altos de Chavón, which if it rains would have to be cancelled! BOO!
Sunday, Sept 11th – Maybe RAIN
By Sunday, the lovely Tropical Storm Maria should be getting closer to the Dominican Republic, so that may mean it will be rainy and windy – perfect for a lazy Sunday in bed!

Tropical Storm Maria – What is she doing? Where is she going? This hurricane season is certainly very active! With Tropical Storm Maria looming and predicted to pass close by the Dominican Republic in just a few days, here is a quick Tropical Storm Maria update:
Tropical Storm Maria is now 1,000 miles South-East of the Dominican Republic
Yesterday she was looking very “disorganised” but sadly today she has managed to “re-organise” herself and is now back on track to develop into a hurricane category 1 by next Tuesday (by which time she should be far North of the Dominican Republic – so don’t panic!)
Tropical Storm Maria has so far not followed her predicted path, she was predicted to travel “North-West” over the last few days – but she just keeps going West – which is not good for us in the Dominican Republic. The longer Tropical Storm Maria heads West, the more likely her path with cross us!
Tropical Storm Maria is still moving WEST-NORTH-WEST at a speed of 18kph and has maximum sustained winds of 40mph.
CONCLUSION: Even if Tropical Storm Maria does head North as predicted, she will pass close enough by the Dominican Republic to bring plenty of rain and some wind.
We suggest that you follow the movements of Tropical Depression Storm Maria closely so that you can be fully prepared, the below links are fantastic sources for keeping up-to-date:
