Where is Tropical Storm Emily? Having sent our employees home and closed the office early, I must say I’m a little bit miffed that thus far the weather in Casa de Campo La Romana really hasn’t been that bad – and certainly not bad enough to warrant a half day off work!

So what is going on? Did Tropical Storm Emily just disappear?
Unfortunately Emily has not disappeared, she changed course, or rather she did not follow the path predicted and instead of travelling North-West across the Dominican Republic, Tropical Storm Emily has very kindly continued West, essentially moving parallel with the southern coast of the Dominican Republic.  However, she is currently (7pm) stationary according to the National Hurricane Centre, but is expected to start moving again in the next few hours.

So where is she going?
It is impossible to know with certainty where she is going , after all yesterday and this morning everyone was telling us she was coming to the Dominican Republic, however the predictions are that she will continue West and then head North across Haiti.

What does this mean for the Dominican Republic, Casa de Campo and La Romana?
Emily’s new course does not much change the outcome for the Dominican Republic, Casa de Campo or La Romana, in her current position she is causing heavy rain in Casa de Campo and along most of the Southern coast of the Dominican Republic – rain which is expected to continue until at least Thursday night. Most areas of the Dominican Republic will receive 6 – 12 inches of rain with some isolated amounts as much as 20 inches, this quantity of rain poses risks of flooding, flash floods and landslides.

This image from stormpulse.com shows the current position of Tropical Storm Emily and her new projected path. You can see that even on this new path, with such an extensive mass of cloud the storm (and heavy rains) will inevitable cross across the Dominican Republic and our beloved Casa de Campo – not ideal weather for cruising in a golf cart!

This information was accurate as of 7.45pm on Wednesday the 3rd of August.
