The Casa de Campo – La Romana port, which via cruise-ships welcomes hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors every year has just been certified for it’s safety.
The certification for Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) is the most important accreditation awarded by the Dominican Republic Port authorities that complies with all regulatory requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
In an official ceremony led by Port Authority Executive Director, Engineer Ramon Antonio Rivas Cordero, and the Head of the Main Port Security Specialist in the Dominican Republic (CESEP), Vice-Admiral Juan Ramón Soto de la Rosa, the certification was presented to Mr. Luis Emilio Rodriguez, Executive Director of the International Tourist Pier Casa de Campo-La Romana.
Speaking at the ceremony in La Romana, Vice Admiral Soto de la Rosa said: “This certification is synonymous with the progress and continuing modernisation in this country, to comply with established processes based on the standards of the ISPS Code, ranging from the time established to correct weaknesses to the rigorous assessments and audits performed in the ports, it takes a positive message to all the national productive sector, “he said.
For his part, Mr. Luis Emilio Rodriguez, a Casa de Campo villa owner said the ISPS certification confirms the safe operation of the International Tourist Pier Casa de Campo-La Romana, which in turn translates into confidence for cruise lines and shipping agents.
The ceremony was also attended by executives and Andres Cedeño Altagracia Fernandez, MTICC, and Mr. Fidel Castro, Security Officer Port Authority.
The Port is located at the mouth of Rio Dulce in La Romana, less than a 5 minute drive from the entrance of the Casa de Campo resort and was built by the Central Romana Corporation, Ltd. to help develop cruise tourism in the area east of the country.
We are currently in the active cruise season, so the port is currently receiving thousands of tourists each week, who visit the attractive points of the city, the artistic village of Altos de Chavon in Casa de Campo, the nearby town of Bayahibe and as well as the Catalina and Saona islands, among other sights.
