This week’s ‘Only in the DR’ photo was taken by me on a recent trip to Macao and yes it is a man driving his motorbike in the sea!

At the end of the Macao beach, it is possible to continue walking (a little in the water and a little on the sand) around by the rocks, and when we were in Macao that is what we decided to do. So hand in hand we paddled through the beautiful blue water, enjoying a nice romantic moment, when the gentle lapping noise of the ocean was drowned out by the roar of an engine. Startled by this sudden and very unexpected noise, we turned to see a motorbike powering through the water towards us and before we’d even had chance to get out our camera he’d whipped past in a spray of salt water!

And he’s off! The mystery motorist is determined to go by bike!

Having splashed his way past us, this dare we say, lazy fellow, then continued to ride his bike along past the rocks, in the water, before coming to a point where he stopped. Stopping may seem like a sensible idea, but the spot this bright gentleman chose to stop in was in fact rather deep – at one point his bike was practically completely submerged in the sea.  Seriously? What was he thinking?

He’s a cool rider!

Having hung around with his friends, tried (and failed) to impress a group of tourists, who were wearing banana leaf hats, our bike-riding friend then decided to park his motorbike in the sand, leaving it semi-descondido (hidden) between the rocks. It was at this point that I was able to read the ‘name’ of the bike painted on it ‘super gato’, surely given that cats hate water, ‘super duck’ would have been more appropriate? Well I guess sense and logic do not figure in this guy’s list of talents – after all who needs more talents, when you can ride a motorbike in the sea!

Taking a rest, the ‘Super Gato’ hidden between the rocks
