The lights are much brighter there, forget all your troubles, forget all your cares, so go DAN TAUN, where all the lights are bright, DAN TAUN, waiting for you tonight, DAN TAUN, you’re going to be alright – DAN TAUN!
This week’s ‘Only in the DR’ photo was sent to us by a Casa de Campo Living reader, but sadly I can’t remember by who! Whoever you are – thank you!
As you can see the image is of a garage door, that has been painted with the words ‘DAN TAUN’ – when I first saw this I showed it to Philip and he couldn’t stop laughing, but I totally did not get it – I thought it must be someone’s name: Dan (as in Daniel) Taun. Then Philip got one of our Dominican friends to read it and then it was ‘obvious’ that it says or rather is meant to say ‘Downtown.’ It could of course still be someone’s name as well…
Just in case you didn’t catch on – the paragraph at the start of the article is the lyrics to the song ‘Downtown’, a song first recorded by Petula Clark in 1965, but has since been sung by many more.
We want your photos and/or stories! If you have any photos of classic DR scenes or even bizarre photos or stories, we would love to hear from you!
