11 Casa de Campo beach

In this week’s ‘Memories of Casa de Campo’ post, Carol Burke remembers all of Casa de Campo’s many beaches and the dramatic Teeth of the Dog coastline. Most of the beaches Carol remembers are still there, but all are of course a little different….

Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.
— John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club

The shore of Casa is stunning. Lined with golf courses, magnificent villas, and a marvelous marina / mall, it is one of the wonders of the world.

Twenty years ago when I lived in Casa there were beaches all along the Casa Coast.

For those of us who did not live in a villa on the sea like this one on Punta Minitas,

there was Minitas Beach itself with its very enjoyable Restaurant El Pescador. (El Pescador has now become the Beach Club By Le Cirque.)

and there were other little hidden beaches along the golf course

where one could sit and contemplate the sea and the sky,

listen to the sound of the gentle wind and waves, and find attractive rocks which had been sculpted by the sea.

Minitas Beach was always alluring in the evening when there were night-time festivals.

At that time there was an off-the-beaten track beach where the Chavon River met the Sea.

I remember when I first came to Casa de Campo in 1987, Minitas Beach was so beautiful and relaxing. I love a beach that has shade, and Minitas had many trees and individual thatched-roof palapas.

Another great thing about Minitas is that you could have lunch or drinks while sitting on the beach.
