Kevin Clash, creator of Elmo from Sesame Workshop visits The Altos de
Chavon Regional Museum of Archaeology
Sesame Workshop, the home of Big Bird and Cookie Monster, is offering a special opportunity for the children of La Romana and Casa de Campo to meet Elmo and its creator Kevin Clash.
La Romana, August 16, 2010: He’s 3 ½ years old with red fur and an infectious laugh. This is the personality that through Kevin Clash, his creator, Elmo has been known for since 1984. As Sesame Street’s Senior
Puppet Coordinator, Muppet Captain and Sesame’s Senior Creative Consultant, Kevin Clash brings plenty of experience and knowledge as a creative character developer. His trip to the Dominican Republic, accompanied by Elmo, is part of Sesame Workshops’s generous gesture of outreach towards diverse communities.
The Altos de Chavon Regional Museum of Archaeology is known for its widespread mission of cultural and historical education within the Dominican Republic. The School of Design’s division of Special Programs
established contact, through its director, Carmen Lorente, with the famed puppeteer and extended an invitation to visit Altos de Chavon and the Dominican Republic. The invitation was eagerly accepted and organized during the International Summer 2010 program.
On Saturday, August 21st from 9.00 to 11.00 am, with the sponsorship of Casa de Campo Living, Elmo will sing songs with a crowd of young children of diverse backgrounds from La Romana and Casa de Campo under the auspices of the Altos de Chavon Cultural Center Foundation. Amidst balloons and popcorn the children will also have a photo opportunity with Elmo and his creator Kevin Clash.
Sesame Workshop is a non-profit educational organization that addresses the critical needs of children worldwide. Fittingly, the Altos de Chavon Cultural Center Foundation’s mission is to foster the creative and
cultural arts in present and future generations through a diverse educational and community outreach program in the Dominican Republic. With similar goals both institutions are committed to finding unique
opportunities to achieve the goals of their respective missions.
