Tuesdays brutal magnitude 7 earthquake which hit Haiti is already seeing a tremendous amount of local support rushing to help and organize relief efforts. Local Casa de Campo residents have jumped into full gear to do what they can to help.

How you can help: They are collecting donations of:

  • Medicine (Water, saline, gauze, alcohol, antibiotics, sedatives, etc)
  • Clothes (Jackets / cover-ups, etc)
  • Food (preferably non-perishables / canned foods, like tuna, sardines, beans, milk, juices, etc).
  • Blankets / Cover ups.

This effort is being run by La Romana and Casa de Campo residents, who have set-up Help Centers in the Claro Codetel Stores of CDC resident Loly Hazoury.

ADDITIONALLY, Celulares & Mas is providing FREE calls to anyone needing to contact relatives in Haiti!

On a side note, we are very proud of our community for jumping in so quickly to help out after such a catastrophe.

UPDATE: We have also just confirmed that local courier company, Aeropaq, has teamed up with the Red Cross and they are an official collection center for donations at their offices in La Romana (Plaza Galería Suite 3, Calle Francisco Richiez esquina Altagracia), Santo Domingo and san Francisco de Macoris.

Items that they are authorized to collect on behalf of the citizens of Haiti are : Medicines, Bottled water, Canned goods and Clothes. For more information, please contact them at: 809.550.4400 / 4500 / 4600.

UPDATE #2 (2010/01/14):  We’ve just been informed that the Celulares & Mas store at the Marina’s Coconut Mall will also be accepting donations. We’ve also been informed that all items donated to Celulares & Mas will be delivered to Fundacion Sur Futuro and the United Nations.

UPDATE #3: The Dominican Coffee company ‘Dominican Gold Coffee’ has pledged to give $1 of every purchase of their Coffee online, to help Haiti. They are also donating medical supplies and clothing. So now would be a great time to give their Coffee a try!
