The Fundacion MIR, a non-profit organisation with a boys and girls vocational schools in la Romana recently celebrated the graduation of pupils from both their boys and girls school.
The graduation was held on July 30th at Cancha San Martin de Porres in La Romana and was a joyous occasion, when hundreds of friends and family of the graduated classes turned out to support and celebrate with the 103 graduating pupils. Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, who founded the Fundacion MIR in 1990 took part in the ceremony, joined by Lyanne Azqueta who were both proud to hand out the diplomas and congratulate the graduating pupils for all their hard work.
This year was the very first graduation from MIR Esperanza (the Fundacion MIR’s boys vocational school), with 23 boys graduating with qualifications in refrigeration and electricity, a qualification which enables them to proceed in life, to work and succeed in these fields. 80 girls graduated from the Escuela Tecnica Vocacional Fundacion MIR (the girls vocational school) with qualifications on nursing, accounting and culinary arts, which will no doubt stand them in good stead for a very bright future.
In total the Fundacion MIR schools currently have more than 1,000 pupils and has to date, graduated 177 girls from the culinary school, 155 girls from nursing school and 120 girls from the accounting school. In the future the Fundacion MIR expects this number to grow exponentially, with the help and support of you and your kind contributions to the Fundacion MIR!

Since 1990, we have served the women, youth and children of La Romana and the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic by partnering with and providing funding for social programs. With the help of benefactors and individual contributions, the programs provide a home, medical assistance, education and technical preparation for the people that are most in need in our community.
