UPDATE:

The information in this article is no longer correct. Tropical Storm Isaac has now passed by the Dominican Republic.

Here in Casa de Campo, sports facilities, services and restaurants are reopened with the exception of the Teeth of the Dog golf course – which is currently being clear-up as it was damaged by the storm surge.

I’m sure you’re all wondering (as am I) – where is Tropical Storm Isaac? Well, it would appear that Tropical Storm Isaac (currently looking rather “disorganized”) is located 165 miles South of Santo Domingo – but is nevertheless causing a rather impressive storm surge (up to 5ft!), which is, as we speak crashing over the Teeth of the Dog golf course (photo above).

Good news! The Dominican Republic is NO LONGER UNDER HURRICANE WARNING!

We are however still under a “Tropical Storm Warning” – which means wet and windy weather is still expected and if you look out of your window, may have already arrived.

So, Tropical Storm Isaac – WHERE are you and WHAT are you doing?

• The center of Tropical Isaac is currently located 165miles SOUTH of the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo

• Tropical Storm Isaac is moving painfully slowly, at just 15mph, BUT he is currently moving WEST – which is great news for us as it means that the Dominican Republic no longer lies in the “predicted path” for the CENTER of the storm.

• Tropical Storm Isaac is now slowly gathering strength and has maximum sustained winds of 50mph

• The center of Tropical Storm Isaac is now predicted to cross over Haiti and head North-West across Cuba and up towards the West of Florida

What does this mean for us in Casa de Campo / La Romana and the Dominican Republic?

• Although the center will now miss the Dominican Republic – Tropical Storm force winds extend up to 185miles from the center, meaning they could affect us in the Dominican Republic – but probably NOT here in Casa de Campo or La Romana

• There will be rain and wind – just how much we do not yet know, but it really looks like it won’t be too bad at all!

“We’re OK! There’s some big waves currently crashing over the Teeth of the Dog – presumably being churned up from the storm to our South, it’s pretty windy and it’s raining a little bit. I don’t think it’s going to get too much worse –  in fact we’ve ended our ‘hurricane evacuation’ and we’re heading back to the office now!”
