Last Friday the 5th of June the events and catering company ‘Eventos y Catering’ ran by Gladys Quiones, held its first feria de eventos y decoracion, called Deco Eventos 2009. The event started at 6pm, in La Estancia resort, and was hosted by Gladys herself with the aim of showcasing all the table settings, cakes, food options and much more, that her company offers.
I arrived at the gathering fresh from the Cafe de la Leche and was pleased to see a large crowd of at least 250 people, including many familiar faces, both ladies who had come straight from the Cafe de la Leche, as well as many other Casa de Campo villa owners. The event was nicely laid out, so that the main hall was filled with an array of tables, all decorated differently, with ornate napkin holders and exquisite flower arrangements, showcasing the range and variety of table settings Eventos y Catering offers; everything from subtle, small and delicate to fancy and striking. Outside was the bar area and food and as if the three go hand in hand – most of the people.
I barely had time to grab myself a quick drink before the presentations started, but I’m very pleased I did – although I claim to speak Spanish, by 8pm at night and after a few drinks, my ability to understand the speeches was more than a little impaired! Nevertheless, they were a pleasant series of short speeches, culminating in a beautiful and completely unexpected Flamenco dance display, performed by 2 students from the Abraham Lincoln school – Ashley Mateo and Alexandra Papadopolous.
As the evening progressed, a buffet of tempting nibbles appeared and although I abstained from trying any myself, from the crowd which all but annihilated the food I can only assume it was delicious! All in all, it was a very pleasant evening, La Estancia is a beautiful location, and the event was full with happy, smiling people enjoying the food and wine and each others company.
