Why ride your own bike when you can hitch a ride with someone else?
This remarkable photo was sent to us by Carlos Arriaza and was taken in La Romana town. Carlos uploaded the photo with the phrase ‘transporte en La Romana’ which translates as ‘transport in La Romana.’ I imagine, (although I do not know) that the motorbike being transported is broken and on its way to being fixed….another logical (although stupid) explanation is that the second bike ran out of gas…..but who knows?
This is yet another classic and dangerous example of the ways in which people travel and transport objects here in the Dominican Republic. Aside from the law which dictates that all motorists must where a helmet, there doesn’t seem to be any other laws dictating what you can and cannot transport – meaning that as long as you are wearing a helmet (or brain bucket) then you can do whatever you like regardless of how dangerous it may be!
Many thanks to Carlos for sending us this photo!
We want your photos and/or stories! If you have any photos of classic DR scenes or even bizarre photos or stories, we would love to hear from you!
