Could it really be true? Can Dino LaCapra, an avid Fundacion MIR supporter really raise more than USD$2,000 just by running the Chicago marathon? The answer is YES! But how?
Dino LaCapra, who was the team captain of Team MIR who ran the NYC marathon in November last year, is currently preparing to run the Chicago marathon and this time hopes to raise even more than the nearly $2,000 raised from running the NYC marathon!
Running the NYC marathon last November team MIR raised $1800.20, which was used to buy new chalk boards for the new classrooms at the Fundacion MIR school for boys in La Romana. To read about Team MIR and the NYC marathon, click here.
In a letter to you, our Casa de Campo Living community and passionate MIR supporters, Dino explains how you can help him raise more than $2,000 which will be donated directly to the Fundacion MIR’s schools, to help the more than 1,000 children currently enrolled there acheive their full potential.
Family and Friends,
It is another year and yet another challenge approaches. On October 10, 2010 I will run the Chicago Marathon, which boasts a flat and fast course. The speed of the course will be advantageous to me as I aim to finish in less than 3 hours and 10 minutes. Running the marathon in less than this time will automatically qualify me for the oldest marathon in the world, the Boston Marathon.
I have looked forward to running in the Chicago Marathon since I finished the NYC Marathon last year (3:30:58). Training for a marathon is time consuming and definitely not easy, but the effort is more than worth it if I am able to help a child better their education.
Last year TEAM MIR was able to raise nearly $2,000 for its efforts running the NYC Marathon. Fundación MIR put the money to work by purchasing much needed chalk boards for the MIR School for Boys (The school has 360 boys enrolled, 100% of them come from the poorest areas of the Dominican Republic).
Since 1990, Fundación MIR has served women and children of La Romana and the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic to promote the importance of education in the community. You may ask why Fundación MIR and the Dominican Republic. I have developed a deep connection with the people of the Caribbean and Americas over the last decade. Having lived and traveled extensively to the Region I have gained a greater appreciation for the many opportunities we have here in the United States that I want to help some of those on the outside have opportunities of their own.
I’m asking you again for your support and to donate $1 for each mile of the 26.2 mile Chicago Marathon that I will complete on October 10, 2010. The $26.20 is 100% tax deductible and 100% of the funds go to the continued efforts of Fundación MIR.
If you have any questions please email or call the MIR offices at 561.366.5095. You may also contact me with any questions about TEAM MIR at TeamMIR@fundacionmir.org.
Thank you for your support, may we continue to run after our dreams!
