Dueños ’09: Torneo de Polo

The Dueños ’09 event, made this Saturday the 24th of October undoubtedly one of the busiest days of the year! The last event (before the grand fiesta) was the Torneo de Polowhich took place at 4pm at the Casa de Campo Polo fields.Playing in the tournament were 4 teams, each with 4 players.

The final match was played between the ‘Casa de Campo Team’ and the ‘Central Romana Team.’ The final score was: Casa de Campo: 9                               Central Romana: 8 So the winning team were the ‘Casa de Campo’ team! Playing for ‘Casa de Campo’ : Tania Evans, Jose Cedano, Pablo Cabrera, Alfredo Vargas Playing for ‘Central Romana’ : Dr. Jose Lopez, Luis Paniagua, Enzo Giviliano, Anto Cassanova Dr. Jose Lopez was awarded the prize of ‘most valiant player.’

Watching was Calixto Garcia-Velez, Casa de Campo’s new Director of Polo, who said this about the tournament:

We had 16 players (Villa Owners) playing in the tournament, 4 teams. We had 2 women playing – Tania Evans from Detroit and Pamela Hartling from Santo Domingo. All the matches were very close and competitive. The final match was a very fast game and was only decided in the last 30 seconds. As one player put it: «So much for a friendly match, that was a fight to the end!»
