piv Last Thursday the 17th of December, the last day of the Christmas exams a kind-hearted group of 12th Grade Abraham Lincoln pupils decided to spread a little Christmas Cheer among people less fortunate than themselves in La Romana. The group set out, directly after their arduos math exam along with me, Doña Chrisanta and several sacks of gifts all piled into the school mini-bus. Our first stop was the ‘Guarderia Infantil San Martin de Porres,’ a children’s day-care center, which cares for young children who’s parents work all day – similar to the Hogar del Niño. When we arrived the children were all sleeping on mats in a large room and although we tried not to wake them – we inevitably woke most of them, who were of course very excited by our visit and even more excited by our sack of gifts! Our second and final stop was at the Hogar de Ancianos, where we left several sacks of gifts and provisions in the home’s kitchen to be distributed and used by the staff. After which we had some time to spend talking with the elderly people – who were all very friendly and very pleased to see us! Before we left we sang «Feliz Navidad» which was received very well – everyone was clapping and smiling and some people even joined in with the singing! Thank you to everyone who contributed gifts!
