Historically August and September are the most \u2018active\u2019 months of the <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2011\/06\/hurricane-season-2011-what-to-expect\/\">hurricane season<\/a> and now here we are, just 2 days into August and Tropical Storm Emily is headed our way \u2013 with a \u2018tropical wave\u2019 (with the potential to become another <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2011\/06\/hurricane-season-2011-what-to-expect\/\">tropical cyclone<\/a>) following hot on her heals!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/tropical_storm_emily_casa_de_campo_dominican_republic1.jpg?resize=565%2C302&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31567\" title=\"tropical_storm_emily_casa_de_campo_dominican_republic\" height=\"302\" width=\"565\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Image from:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stormpulse.com\/\"> stormpulse.com<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/tropical_storm_emily_casa_de_campo_dominican_republic1.jpg\"><br>\n<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Now before you start to panic; stocking up on tinned foods and barricading the windows and doors \u2013 although the above image clearly shows Tropical Storm Emily headed towards the Dominican Republic, a Tropical Storm is NOT a hurricane and thankfully Tropical Storm Emily is not predicted to become a hurricane \u2013 meaning that although the weather is certainly not going to be ideal for sunbathing (or any other outdoor activities for that matter) it shouldn\u2019t be too bad\u2026.. &nbsp;Also in the above image we can see that the centre of Tropical Storm Emily is directed towards the West of Santo Domingo, meaning that the worst of the storm should not hit Casa de Campo or La Romana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tropical Storm Emily \u2013 what to expect?<br>\n<\/strong>\u2022 rain<br>\n\u2022 wind ( a Tropical Storm has maximum sustained winds between 56km\/h and 102km\/h \u2013 Emily is expected to hit the Dominican Republic with maximum sustained winds of nearly 100km\/h)<br>\n\u2022 flooding (in recent times <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2011\/06\/rainy-days-the-chavon-river-is-flooded\/\">the Chav\u00f3n river flooded<\/a> and last year the river in La Romana also flooded)<br>\n\u2022 leaky roofs<br>\n\u2022 flash floods<br>\n\u2022 mudslides<br>\n\u2022 limited damage to wooden and\/or fragile buildings and roads<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How should you prepare?<br>\n<\/strong>\u2022 prepare your home by bringing any outdoor furniture inside<br>\n\u2022 ensure all windows, doors and shutters are closed<br>\n\u2022 if your Casa de Campo villa is built with \u2018open air\u2019 areas \u2013 put down towels around this area to soak up any extra water<br>\n\u2022 put down towels around patio doors and windows \u2013 windows that do not normally leak may start to leak when faced with driving winds and rain<br>\n\u2022 if you Casa de Campo villa is old it may have some leaks \u2013 if that is the case, move any furniture away from that area and place buckets to catch any dripping<br>\n\u2022 stay indoors and don\u2019t travel! The roads and facilities within Casa de Campo are excellent and will be able to withstand a storm of this scale without problem, however outside of the Casa de Campo resort any traveller may encounter
