Not only should this not be possible, but this family are making it look incredibly easy and even comfortable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This photo, contributed to us by Carlos Arriaza sadly does not show anything particularly unusual in the DR, motorbikes overloaded with up to 5 or even 6 people is actually quiet common \u2013 the sad truth is that for many (indeed most) families bike is the only way to travel. When I first arrived here I saw people travelling in this way and I thought \u2013 how can that family do that with their child, but then I realised how else would they take their kids to school or the doctors?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course there is a funny side \u2013 when Carlos posted this photo on his Facebook profile, he wrote the phrase \u2018el casco es obligatorio\u2019, which means \u2018the helmet is obligatory.\u2019 It is Dominican law that all drivers of motor bikes or mopeds must wear helmets \u2013 which is a step towards making life on the Dominican roads safer, but a little ironic given that there are not rules against travelling whilst carrying large animals, other vehicles or your entire family\u2026and yes we have literally seen it all!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving-wp.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2009\/09\/Only-in-the-DR-Logo-sm.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Only-in-the-DR-Logo-sm-150x150-2-150x150.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Only in the DR Logo sm\" title=\"Only in the DR Logo sm\" height=\"150\" width=\"150\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want your photos and\/or stories!
