All these photos were taken in the 1990\u2019s \u2013 and you can see how little and how much La Romana has changed\u2026\u2026in some aspects it looks the same and in others it looks totally different!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><em>\u201c<\/em>Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Ralph Waldo Emerson<\/p><p><em>\u201cWhen you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Chinese Proverb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the pleasures of living in Casa de Campo was the abundance of art available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Altos de Chavon there was a Gallery for contemporary art, and an Archaeological Museum for the Art of the Pre-Columbian Taino people, as well as a gift shop and frequent art fairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In La Romana, Eduardo\u2019s Gallery offered paintings and sculptures by local artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When friends and family visited us in Casa de Campo in the 1980s and 1990s, and wanted to look at the local arts and crafts, I sometimes showed them a place just outside of town.  I don\u2019t remember its name but it was a giant supermarket of Dominican arts and crafts.
