{"id":319725,"date":"2011-02-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-03T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/fox-news-dominican-republic-is-still-safe\/"},"modified":"2022-10-21T17:56:49","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T21:56:49","slug":"fox-news-dominican-republic-is-still-safe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/es\/fox-news-dominican-republic-is-still-safe\/","title":{"rendered":"Fox News: \u201cDominican Republic is still safe.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/foxnews.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/foxnews.jpeg?resize=208%2C196&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24897\" title=\"foxnews\" height=\"196\" width=\"208\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Yes there were some isolated cases of Cholera within Casa de Campo and YES there are some cases of Cholera in the Dominican Republic, but this is NOT a reason to panic, it is not a reason to stop eating (if you live here\/are already here) and it is certainly not a reason to cancel\/postpone a holiday or visit. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/2011\/01\/31\/despite-reports-dominican-republic-safe\/#ixzz1CkDOTstL\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">As was declared by Dr Manny of Fox news earlier this week the \u201cDominican Republic is still safe.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>In his article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/2011\/01\/31\/despite-reports-dominican-republic-safe\/#ixzz1CkDOTstL\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cDespite reports, Dominican Republic is still safe\u201d Dr Manny,<\/a> a reporter and doctor for Fox news, says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/2011\/01\/31\/despite-reports-dominican-republic-safe\/#ixzz1CkDOTstL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cThe cholera problem in the island nation of Hispaniola is primarily located in Haiti.\u201d<\/a><br>\n(That is, NOT the Dominican Republic and certainly not Casa de Campo)<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/2011\/01\/31\/despite-reports-dominican-republic-safe\/#ixzz1CkDOTstL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cMany friends of mine asked me if they should cancel their trips to the Caribbean. And my answer was overwhelmingly \u201cno.\u201d People got sick at that wedding because seafood was obtained at the border very close to some rivers that flow from Haiti. Predictably, that particular seafood was contaminated.\u201d<\/a><br>\n(If you eat infected food you will get sick \u2013 regardless of the country or place you are in. The infected seafood, which was practically brought from Haiti is not normally in the Dominican food supply \u2013 and is certainly NOT served at the Casa de Campo resort.)<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/2011\/01\/31\/despite-reports-dominican-republic-safe\/#ixzz1CkDOTstL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cI promise you, as long as you stay smart, drink purified water and only eat properly cooked foods \u2013 which you should be doing anyway \u2013 your risk of contracting cholera is miniscule.\u201d<\/a><br>\n(Sound advice for all travellers!)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If there were cases of Cholera in Casa de Campo \u2013 how can it be safe now?<\/strong><br>\nThe resort of Casa de Campo has been and will continue to be safe. Casa de Campo\u2019s food preparation facilities, kitchens and restaurants adhere to stricter food safety guidelines than that of a 5 star hotel or restaurant in New York and have done even before the outbreak started \u2013 they had to, to become a member of the Leading Hotels of the World.<br>\nThis means that ALL food and drinks prepared in a Casa de Campo resort kitchen will have been meticulously prepared, cleaned and cooked \u2013 <strong>NO RISK OF CHOLERA. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So how did Cholera get into Casa de Campo?<\/strong><br>\nAs I explained in my previous article on this topic <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2011\/01\/external-caterer-brings-cholera-to-wedding-servicio-externo-de-catering-trae-colera-a-la-boda\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cExternal Caterer brings Cholera into Casa de Campo,\u201d<\/a> Cholera was contracted by guests at a PRIVATE wedding, which took place in a PRIVATE villa, which was catered by an OUTSIDE caterer. The wedding hosts brought in a caterer, who does not work for Casa de Campo and it was this caterer who served lobster, which were infected with Cholera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2018OUTSIDE\u2019 caterer? So what \u2013 if there is Cholera surely I could still be infected? <\/strong><br>\nSurely Cholera is Cholera \u2013 it doesn\u2019t matter who brought it in, does it? Of course it matters! If someone decided to export some infected lobster to the United States and as a consequence a number of people became ill with Cholera \u2013 this would not be the fault of the United States, but the fault of the person who brought it in and it would certainly not mean that the United States was suddenly unsafe and unclean. Although whos to blame doesn\u2019t matter, the point is that the Dominican food supply is NOT infected with Cholera and therefore it is safe to continue eating here (as I myself and all the other millions of people living here) can testify to.<br>\nDr Manny also agrees that the food is safe, \u201cThis isolated incident was created by the individuals who were managing the food. It had no relevance to the food supply, which is currently very healthy and very safe in the entire island of the Dominican Republic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is it really safe?<\/strong><br>\nYES! As someone who lives, eats and breathes in Casa de Campo I can honestly say that yes it is safe. How do I stay safe?<br>\n1. I drink and cook with bottle water (because the water is chlorinated, not because it is dirty)<br>\n2. I eat properly cooked foods<br>\n3. I eat in restaurants that I know and trust (like the Casa de Campo resort restaurants.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later this week we will be touring the Casa de Campo food preparation facilities and kitchens
