Exactly 1 year ago this week, we published our very first \u2018Memories of Casa de Campo\u2019 article written by Carol Burke and illustrated with her impressive collection of Casa de Campo and La Romana photos from the 1980\u2019s and 1990\u2019s. We would like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to Carol Burke for providing us with the \u2018Memories in Casa\u2019 article every week, I personally have very much enjoyed starting every Monday morning with Carol\u2019s stories and photos of Casa de Campo \u2018back then!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

In this post we celebrate Carol\u2019s memories and photos with a recap of some of our favourite Carol Burke articles! Each section is a quote from that \u2018Memory\u2019 along with a photograph, to read the full article and see all the photos, you just have to click on the links!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Punta Aguila Airport<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>

<\/strong>\u201cThe airport tower staff would sound a bell at the crossing gates whenever there was an incoming or outgoing flight. Golf carts and pedestrians would line up and wait at the openings in the fence to the runway when the alarm bell sounded until the plane landed and taxied back to the airport building, or until it took off. \u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/p>

The Dancing Due\u00f1os<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>

\u201cChildren from the catamaran, and children making sand castles came running to see this amazing event. The volley ball players turned their backs on the ball for this sensational phenomenon. The Merengueros in the band went into high gear, and all eyes were fixed on the dancers.\u201d<\/p>

Sports and Activities<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>

\u201cSometimes tourists came in to watch the aerobics class. I remember one tourist in particular who was interested in observing the class, but didn\u2019t seem to know that smoking was not allowed. While we worked out to the music, she smoked several cigarettes, filling the racquetball court with second-hand smoke.\u201d<\/p>

Children in Casa<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>

\u201cIn Casa de Campo children can play on the beach all year, but summer is the best time because there is no homework to worry about. There is a whole beach full of sand and water with unlimited possibilities for creativity. Memories of happy times spent with one\u2019s family live on as children grow up and family memories become more important than any others.\u201d<\/p>

\n\u201cWe arrived in Casa de Campo in August, 1987.  My husband had been invited by Casa de Campo general manager, Touran Rateb, and Food and Beverage Director, Kurt Tschamper, to move from Miami, Florida to Casa de Campo to direct the nine restaurants of Casa de Campo and Altos de Chavon.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>
