Eat dessert first.<\/em> \u2014 Ernestine Ulmer<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Life in Casa de Campo was sweet, both figuratively and literally.   There were many chances each day to find a great dessert or sweet snack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Casa de Campo often hosted food festivals.  It seemed as though there were acres of cakes in the table full of fanciful desserts in every festival.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/07\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-sweet-things-in-casa\/01-festival-of-cakes\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19095\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/01-Festival-of-Cakes.jpg?resize=382%2C560&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"01 Festival of Cakes\" class=\"wp-image-19095\" title=\"01 Festival of Cakes\" height=\"560\" width=\"382\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong> Festival of Cakes<br>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every day, Caf\u00e9 del Sol featured a selection of ice cream sundaes.  These were so good. The nice thing about corn pudding is that it is not overly sweet and the character of corn with cinnamon and coconut is ideal for a nutritious finale.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/07\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-sweet-things-in-casa\/04-the-best-corn-pudding-in-the-world\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19098\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/04-The-Best-Corn-Pudding-in-the-World.jpg?resize=560%2C391&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"04 The Best Corn Pudding in the World\" class=\"wp-image-19098\" title=\"04 The Best Corn Pudding in the World\" height=\"391\" width=\"560\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>The Best Corn Pudding in the World<br>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My sweet dream of the day at Casa de Campo used to be to have a big plate of chocolate \u00e9clairs, fruit tarts, marzipan, and Napoleons.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/07\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-sweet-things-in-casa\/05-sweet-dreams-are-made-of-this\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19099\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/05-Sweet-Dreams-are-Made-of-This.jpg?resize=560%2C423&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"05 Sweet Dreams are Made of This\" class=\"wp-image-19099\" title=\"05 Sweet Dreams are Made of This\" height=\"423\" width=\"560\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Sweet Dreams are Made of This<br>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Napoleons are also known as Mille-feuille, or the thousand-leaf pastry.  They are made from layers of puff pastry alternating with layers of custard, whipped cream or jam, and topped with white and chocolate fondant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fruit tarts were tiny pies with a custard filling on the bottom topped with fresh strawberries or mangos and finished with a sugar glaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9clairs are made from p\u00e2t\u00e9 \u00e0 choux dough which is a light pastry dough baked then filled with custard and topped with a chocolate glaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marzipan is a confection made from sugar and almond meal.  It is usually formed into cute animal or fruit shapes and sometimes used for icing  and filling cakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Casa de Campo bakery turned out hundred of these delicious pastries every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you wanted to stay at hme and nurture the sweet tooth, one call to the Casa de Campo Room Service would deliver a platter of candies and cookies to the villa.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
