{"id":319015,"date":"2010-07-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-07-05T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-donkey-polo-as-it-was-then\/"},"modified":"2022-10-21T17:54:56","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T21:54:56","slug":"memories-of-casa-de-campo-donkey-polo-as-it-was-then","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/es\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-donkey-polo-as-it-was-then\/","title":{"rendered":"Memories of Casa de Campo:  Donkey Polo As It Was Then"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/01-Donkey-style-Polo1.jpg?resize=560%2C350&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"01 Donkey-style Polo\" class=\"wp-image-18510\" title=\"01 Donkey-style Polo\" height=\"350\" width=\"560\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In this week\u2019s \u2018Memories of Casa de Campo\u2019 post Carol Burke, reminisces about the Casa de Campo Donkey Polo tournaments of the 1990\u2019s \u2013 it seems they were a little different to the <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/07\/photo-of-the-week-kicking-ass\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Donkey Polo<\/a> we experienced this weekend at the<a href=\"http:\/\/https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/07\/photo-of-the-week-kicking-ass\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"> Ye Ol\u2019Fashioned Hoedown!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote><p><em>To carry his load without resting, not to be bothered by heat or cold and always be content: these three things we can learn from a donkey<\/em>.   \u2014 Indian Proverb<\/p><wp-block data-block=\"core\/more\"><\/wp-block><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early 1990s the donkey polo games at Casa de Campo were a lot less glamorous than they are now considering the donkey polo event recently with the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donkey Polo was a popular group activity for visitors to Casa de Campo.  One of the theme parties, \u201cA Night on the Ranch\u201d started with an exciting game of Donkey Polo.  Each guest received a straw hat on arrival and after the Donkey Polo match there would be a Western-style banquet with grilled ribs, chili con carne, roast beef, corn on the cob, fresh vegetables, corn pudding, salads, fruits, and desserts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The waiters were dressed in blue jeans and cowboy shirts and the maitre d\u2019 was dressed as the Town Sheriff.   A country-western band and everyone dancing made Western Ranch Night events real hoe-downs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donkey polo in Casa de Campo was a lot of fun and still is.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/07\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-donkey-polo-as-it-was-then\/01-donkey-style-polo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18505\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/01-Donkey-style-Polo.jpg?resize=560%2C290&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"01 Donkey-style Polo\" class=\"wp-image-18505\" title=\"01 Donkey-style Polo\" height=\"290\" width=\"560\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Donkey-style Polo<br>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donkey polo is to polo as broomball is to ice hockey; it\u2019s an alternative game played for fun and for the amusement of the spectators.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/07\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-donkey-polo-as-it-was-then\/02-spectators-at-donkey-polo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18506\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/02-Spectators-at-Donkey-polo.jpg?resize=560%2C315&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"02 Spectators at Donkey polo\" class=\"wp-image-18506\" title=\"02 Spectators at Donkey polo\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Spectators at Donkey Polo<br>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In broomball all the rules of ice hockey apply but there is no checking allowed.
