{"id":318521,"date":"2010-03-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-23T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/a-toast-to-the-altos-de-chavon-design-school\/"},"modified":"2022-11-10T10:37:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-10T14:37:13","slug":"a-toast-to-the-altos-de-chavon-design-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/es\/a-toast-to-the-altos-de-chavon-design-school\/","title":{"rendered":"A toast to the Altos de Chavon Design School"},"content":{"rendered":"\"altos<\/a>\n\nTuesday March 2 the Renata and Peter Winterstein hosted a cocktail to\u00a0help the School of Design celebrate 25 years of educating Dominican\u00a0and international students at the Altos de Chav\u00f3n School of Design.\n\nThe Altos de Chav\u00f3n Cultural Center Foundation is a U.S. not-for-\u00a0profit public charity that has a cultural and educational mission\u00a0here in the Dominican Republic. The school is on a university level\u00a0and offers an associate degree, with many students continuing on to\u00a0Parsons School of Design (now called The New School For Design) in\u00a0NY.\n\nThe curriculum is about art and design, and it is design that is\u00a0\u00a0the starter motor for commerce and industry here in the rapidly\u00a0developing economy of the DR. The two intuitions, Parsons and Chav\u00f3n,\u00a0have been affiliated since 1983. More than 60% of the schools\u00a0\u00a0students require sponsorship support to cover their expenses of tuition, lodging, materials, and food while living and studying in Chav\u00f3n. The evening was planned to raise funds for the scholarship\u00a0program, in particular to help the many disadvantaged Dominican and\u00a0the several Haitian students ( whose families suffered in the quake)\u00a0who are currently enrolled.\n\n\"roy\"<\/a>\n\nOver 130 people attended the convivial evening. Students served the\u00a0delicious home made hors d\u2019oeuvres and chatted with guests in\u00a0Spanish, English, French, German and Italian! One student even\u00a0speaks Swedish! There was a silent auction of student and faculty\u00a0works and they sold like hot-cakes, all the money going to the\u00a0scholarship fund. This is the first of an annual event. It was a\u00a0truly wonderful evening.\n\nHere are my photos of the evening:\n\n\n
