{"id":318455,"date":"2010-03-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-13T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/cocinado-con-candy-la-bandera\/"},"modified":"2022-10-21T17:57:22","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T21:57:22","slug":"cocinado-con-candy-la-bandera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/es\/cocinado-con-candy-la-bandera\/","title":{"rendered":"Cocinado con Candy: La Bandera"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/candy-4.jpg?resize=575%2C329&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"candy\" class=\"wp-image-13633\" title=\"candy\" height=\"329\" width=\"575\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the 27th of February, the Dominican Republic celebrated Independence Day \u2018Dia de La Independencia,\u2019 for which Candiver Bienvenido wrote an article entitled \u2018La Bandera Dominicana,\u2019 here Candiver teaches us to cook \u2018La Bandera\u2019 the Dominican Republic\u2019s national dish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018La Bandera\u2019 is a dish eaten every day in the Dominican Republic and usually consists of rice, beans and meat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>For the rice<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6 cups of water<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 pounds&nbsp;of rice (4 cups of rice)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2&nbsp;tble. spoons of salt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4 tble. spoons of oil<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Preparation<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a cooking pot you put to boil the water with the salt and the oil. Add the washed rice to the boiling water and wait until the water evaporates. Stir so that it doesn\u2019t stick, then you put the lid and set the heat to minimum. Give the rice like 20 minutes to cook then check if the rice is cooked, if not give it a firther 5-10 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>For the meat or chicken<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 pounds of red meat or chicken chopped in pieces (already seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic for at least an hour)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4&nbsp;tble. spoons of tomato paste<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 onion (finely chopped)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 red pepper (chopped Juliana style)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3&nbsp;tble. spoon of vegetable oil<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 1\/2&nbsp;cup of water (could vary if want lots of sauce)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salt and Pepper (to your taste)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a cooking pot add the oil, then you stir fry the meat slowly adding some water at the time so that it doesn\u2019t stick nor burn. After the meat or chicken is cooked you add the onions, the peppers,vinegar and the tomato paste. Add the remaining water, but the sauce can\u2019t be too thin, you need to have a good sauce. Season with salt and pepper to your own taste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>For beans <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 big can of cooked red beans<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 small piece of pork chop<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 clove of garlic (smashed)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1\/4 of an onion (finely chopped)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1&nbsp;of cup of chicken stock<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cilantro and Parsley ( finely chopped)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 tble. spoons of tomato paste<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 tea spoon of vinegar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 cup of water (optional)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Preparation: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a preheated pot add the oil, then add the garlic, onions and the pork chop until cooked. Then add the cooked beans, the vinegar and stock and after it boiled add the tomato paste and if&nbsp; you see it is too dry you add the water. Let it boil again then finally add the&nbsp;parsley and the cilantro. Make sure that the beans are not too thick nor too thin. It must be a very smooth sauce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>To Serve<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put on a plate a portion of the rice, to the side the beans and to another side you put the meat or chicken. This should always be accompanied with slices of&nbsp;avocado or a green salad to you preference. You sit on your table with family and friend and enjoy a good traditional dish with them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow
