Driving around Casa de Campo in the golf cart was always a great pastime.&nbsp;&nbsp;Occasionally I would see a beautiful rainbow over Casa de Campo, and all the time there were the amazing, colorful flowering trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of my favorite trees was the Mother of Chocolate tree which was always full of pink flowers wafting a fragrance of chocolate through the air.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/00-mother-of-chocolate-tree-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12648\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/00-Mother-of-Chocolate-tree1.jpg?resize=509%2C800&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"00 Mother of Chocolate tree\" class=\"wp-image-12648\" title=\"00 Mother of Chocolate tree\" height=\"800\" width=\"509\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The gardens of Casa de Campo are among the most beautiful in the world.&nbsp;&nbsp;There are birds, fruit trees, comfy palapas, and cool turquoise swimming pools everywhere in Casa.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/01-casa-de-campo-garden\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12649\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/01-Casa-de-Campo-garden.jpg?resize=575%2C375&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"01 Casa de Campo garden\" class=\"wp-image-12649\" title=\"01 Casa de Campo garden\" height=\"375\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of Casa\u2019s gardens are hidden behind high stone walls. One of these gardens has a secret garden door that opens onto a meandering path to the Teeth of the Dog golf course.&nbsp;&nbsp;I often walked by this intriguing garden wall with my dog Daisy.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/01-garden-door-daisy\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12650\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/01-garden-door-Daisy.jpg?resize=575%2C388&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"01 garden door Daisy\" class=\"wp-image-12650\" title=\"01 garden door Daisy\" height=\"388\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nearby, along the road from Punta Aguila in Casa de Campo there was a farm garden where people could stop to buy vegetables every day.&nbsp;&nbsp; We&nbsp;often bought our salad makings from the farmer there.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/01-clara_with-farmer\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12651\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/01-Clara_with-farmer.jpg?resize=575%2C418&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"01 Clara_with farmer\" class=\"wp-image-12651\" title=\"01 Clara_with farmer\" height=\"418\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even Altos de Chavon had its memorable gardens.&nbsp;&nbsp;My favorite was in the Colinas of Chavon, built along the cliffs above the Chavon River.&nbsp;&nbsp;The scene it created was a fantastic contrast between a wild jungle above the green Chavon, and the calmness of a civilized flower garden.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/02-colina-garden-view-of-chavon\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12652\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/02-Colina-garden-view-of-Chavon.jpg?resize=549%2C800&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"02 Colina garden view of Chavon\" class=\"wp-image-12652\" title=\"02 Colina garden view of Chavon\" height=\"800\" width=\"549\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One Altos de Chavon garden produced food for the restaurants.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was&nbsp;&nbsp;a vegetable garden within a walled in piece of land behind the Piazzetta, near the Altos de Chavon swimming pool.&nbsp;&nbsp;The chefs of Piazzetta, Casa del Rio, and El Sombrero consulted with the gardeners to produce delectable edibles for their respective restaurants.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/03-marshall-in-casa-de-campo-veggie-garden-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12654\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/03-Marshall-in-Casa-de-Campo-veggie-garden1.jpg?resize=507%2C800&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"03 Marshall in Casa de Campo veggie garden\" class=\"wp-image-12654\" title=\"03 Marshall in Casa de Campo veggie garden\" height=\"800\" width=\"507\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was another vegetable garden near the Fitness Center in Casa de Campo which produced some of the fresh food for the restaurants&nbsp;&nbsp;El Patio, Tropicana, Lago Grill, El Pescador, and the lunchtime sandwich place on the terrace outside the Golf Pro Shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One time, the Spanish singer Braulio came to Casa de Campo, and used some vegetables from the garden to help cook in El Patio.&nbsp;&nbsp;The magazine,&nbsp;<em>Vanidades<\/em>, featured this cooking event in issue no 11 \u2013 May 24, 1988.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/06-braulio-and-marshall-photos-only\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12655\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/06-Braulio-and-Marshall-photos-only-537x1024-2.jpg?resize=537%2C1024&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"06 Braulio and Marshall photos only\" class=\"wp-image-12655\" title=\"06 Braulio and Marshall photos only\" height=\"1024\" width=\"537\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-12655\" href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-trees-flowers-and-gardens-from-heavenly-to-humble\/06-braulio-and-marshall-photos-only\/\">\n<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this week\u2019s \u2018Memories of Casa de Campo\u2019 post Carol Burke our wonderful weekly columnist&nbsp;reminisces about the beauty of Casa de Campo \u2013 the beautiful gardens, and all the different trees and flowers.
