There are so many things happening in this town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first stop on the sightseeing tour is the La Romana City Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-around-la-romana-with-the-in-laws\/01-city-hall-la-romana\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12366\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/01-City-Hall-La-Romana.jpg?resize=560%2C355&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"01 City Hall La Romana\" class=\"wp-image-12366\" title=\"01 City Hall La Romana\" height=\"355\" width=\"560\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About a block away from the city hall, on the other side of the La Romana Park, is the Long Distance phone company where people go to make telephone calls. People sit in little booths and ask the operator to call a number for them.  It\u2019s sort of like a restaurant but you order a phone call to your table instead of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-around-la-romana-with-the-in-laws\/02-la-romana-park\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12376\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/02-La-Romana-park.jpg?resize=575%2C390&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"02 La Romana park\" class=\"wp-image-12376\" title=\"02 La Romana park\" height=\"390\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-around-la-romana-with-the-in-laws\/03-bodega-and-lotto-in-la-romana-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12375\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/03-Bodega-and-Lotto-in-La-Romana1.jpg?resize=560%2C373&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"03 Bodega and Lotto in La Romana\" class=\"wp-image-12375\" title=\"03 Bodega and Lotto in La Romana\" height=\"373\" width=\"560\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">After the downtown tour we drive towards the La Romana market, and on the way we stop at a bodega near the lotto ticket seller.  This is a lively corner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truck traffic in the street leading to the market takes up both lanes.  It\u2019s amazing how many fruits and vegetables this truck is carrying, and nothing falls off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-around-la-romana-with-the-in-laws\/04-trucks-on-the-way-to-la-romana-market\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12369\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/04-Trucks-on-the-way-to-La-Romana-market.jpg?resize=575%2C383&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"04 Trucks on the way to La Romana market\" class=\"wp-image-12369\" title=\"04 Trucks on the way to La Romana market\" height=\"383\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We consider buying a drink at the soda pop stand, but instead we\u2019ll try to translate the poem on the push-cart.  It says, \u201cQue Dios te multiplique \/ Los que tu me desea \/  yu yu ne la la mariposa \/ felix la chula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-around-la-romana-with-the-in-laws\/05-soda-pop-in-cart-la-romana\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12370\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/05-Soda-Pop-in-Cart-La-Romana.jpg?resize=561%2C800&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"05 Soda Pop in Cart La Romana\" class=\"wp-image-12370\" title=\"05 Soda Pop in Cart La Romana\" height=\"800\" width=\"561\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lumber supply store in La Romana is very busy.  Carts and horses are lined up outside to haul lumber for new construction.  Down the street, the Hot Point Cafe on the corner also seems to be a busy place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-around-la-romana-with-the-in-laws\/06-lumber-supply-store-la-romana\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12371\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/06-Lumber-supply-store-La-Romana.jpg?resize=575%2C383&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"06 Lumber supply store La Romana\" class=\"wp-image-12371\" title=\"06 Lumber supply store La Romana\" height=\"383\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The La Romana market is interesting \u2013 full of fruit and vegetable vendors and small eating shops.  Some of the shoppers leaving the market look very friendly and welcoming to tourists, others not so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/memories-of-casa-de-campo-around-la-romana-with-the-in-laws\/08-shoppers-at-the-la-romana-market\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12372\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/08-Shoppers-at-the-La-Romana-market.jpg?resize=575%2C419&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"08 Shoppers at the La Romana market\" class=\"wp-image-12372\" title=\"08 Shoppers at the La Romana market\" height=\"419\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the way out of town we drive by the Rio Dulce.  There is a colorful abandoned edifice there and a tiny restaurant built on the side of the riverbank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a
