Ok, so the&nbsp;likelihood&nbsp;that I will ever achieve greatness in the sphere of cooking is VERY unlikely, especially given that I\u2019m English, and everyone knows we can\u2019t cook! And so earlier this week, in a desperate attempt to improve, I embarked on a \u2018basics\u2019 cooking course\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The course called <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/01\/curso-basico-de-cocina-italiana-at-lucas-restaurant-starts-tuesday-2nd-feb\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Curso Basico de Cocina Italiana\u2019<\/a> is being run by Italian chef Lisa Perrone at her husband\u2019s very well-known and well-liked La Romana restaurant \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2009\/12\/casa-de-campo-living-reviews-lucas-a-casa-de-campo-staple\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"> Lucas. <\/a> For more information about the course, <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/01\/curso-basico-de-cocina-italiana-at-lucas-restaurant-starts-tuesday-2nd-feb\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first class was a whirlwind of kneading, stirring and prodding dough, which miraculously became rather yummy bread, pizza and focaccia!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We prepared the ingredients \u2013 apparently it\u2019s very important that you have everything ready before you begin, something I\u2019ve never been good at! And then following the recipe (again something I don\u2019t really&nbsp;believe&nbsp;in we prepared the dough. With (ample) help from Lisa it felt like the dough made itself \u2013 maybe because she forced me to actually follow the recipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/me-an-italian-chef-lesson-1-bread-pizza-focaccia\/dough-pizza-lucasd\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12298\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dough-pizza-lucasd.jpg?resize=575%2C431&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"dough pizza lucasd\" class=\"wp-image-12298\" title=\"dough pizza lucasd\" height=\"431\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The kneading part was fun \u2013 you have to really \u2018feel\u2019 the dough; pull it apart and mash it back together. I must say I don\u2019t exactly have a natural&nbsp;talent&nbsp;for this \u2013 but nevertheless I managed it!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/me-an-italian-chef-lesson-1-bread-pizza-focaccia\/lisa-perrone-chef-lucas\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12301\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/lisa-perrone-chef-lucas-214x300-2.jpg?resize=128%2C180&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"lisa perrone chef lucas\" class=\"wp-image-12301\" title=\"lisa perrone chef lucas\" height=\"180\" width=\"128\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Actually making the pizza and foccacia is pretty easy \u2013 roll out dough, cut into a circle (use a plate as a template) and add tomato, cheese etc. A good tip I did learn at this point was that you should not just drizzle olive oil&nbsp;straight&nbsp;onto the dough to make foccacia (as you would imagine), but you should mix the oil with water and beat it about until it gets \u2018fluffy\u2019 (this translation may be a little inaccurate) and then use that on the dough \u2013 I can\u2019t remember why you should do this, maybe so it doesn\u2019t burn and get too crispy? Maybe to keep some moisture in the dough?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, we then used exactly the same dough to make small bread rolls, which we were instructed to do in a variety of shapes; bows, balls, rectangles, swirls. I decide to do love hearts and inscribed the letters \u2018P\u2019 and \u2018R\u2019 into them \u2013 not overly&nbsp;successfully, but they looked really cute!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We used the restaurant\u2019s pizza oven to cook them and so they were done in no time, which meant we had time to taste everything before we went home! It was all so good \u2013 we may &nbsp;have eaten a little too much and so my boyfriend was a little&nbsp;disappointed&nbsp;when I arrived home with only 2 slices of pizza, 2 slices of foccacia and a number of heart-shaped bread rolls!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course continues next week with fresh pasta \u2013 if you\u2019d like to join the course or find out more, <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/01\/curso-basico-de-cocina-italiana-at-lucas-restaurant-starts-tuesday-2nd-feb\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pizza \u2013 finished off with some basil:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2010\/02\/me-an-italian-chef-lesson-1-bread-pizza-focaccia\/pizza-lucas-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12306\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/pizza-lucas1.jpg?resize=575%2C431&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"pizza lucas\" class=\"wp-image-12306\" title=\"pizza lucas\" height=\"431\" width=\"575\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cheese and tomato calzone \u2013 so easy to make! Just take the pizza dough, roll it out, squish some chopped tomato and cheese in the middle and wrap it up!
