However, a year after I first swung a club and created my very first (of very many) divets \u2013 I played in my very first Golf Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was invited to play in the <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2009\/11\/torneo-entre-amigos-la-estancia-the-results-the-dinner-and-the-awards-ceremony\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Torneo entre Amigos\u2019<\/a> being held at <a href=\"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/2009\/11\/torneo-entre-amigos-la-estancia-a-great-day-for-golf\/\">La Estancia<\/a> and although my golfing enthusiasm and regular practicing had completely diminished \u2013 I jumped at the chance to wear my cute golf out-fit and prance around for the cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tournament started around 1.30pm and was in the form \u2018Best Ball; Stableford,\u2019 which for those of you not in the know means that on every hole each team of two people is awarded points dependent on their performance on that particular hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Points were awarded as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bogey: 1 point<br>\nPar: 2 points<br>\nBirdie: 3 points<br>\nEagle: 4 points<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving-wp.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2009\/11\/golf.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/golf-300x225-2.jpg?resize=270%2C203&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"golf\" class=\"wp-image-8939\" title=\"golf\" height=\"203\" width=\"270\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Initially, my partner and I did not understand this scoring concept and so it came as a bit of a shock, when the two men we were playing with told us we may as well move on to the next hole \u2013 apparently without even making it to the green we\u2019d both hit too many shots to get a point \u2013 this did not bode well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, after another couple of holes (or 9) we had about 5 points, not great I admit bit it was at least something!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, as the game progressed and we started to take advantage of the free beers, whisky and vodka, our game went downhill, only slightly because it couldn\u2019t get much worse and by the end I was so exhausted I didn\u2019t even bother to play the last holes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And so when the time came to hand my card in \u2013 I almost didn\u2019t bother, but I\u2019m glad I did \u2013 because we actually won a trophy! Naturally I thought they were joking at first, but no we won second place in Category C \u2013 out of 3 people in our category, I was over the moon! Of course, coming 2nd out of 3 teams may not seem like much of an achievement, especially when that essentially means we came 34th out of 35 \u2013 but I was proud that we weren\u2019t last!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And our score? 8 POINTS!!! I still can\u2019t believe that there was a team worse than us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the best thing? We made the Listin Diario!
