{"id":317713,"date":"2009-11-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-16T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/adventures-in-the-dr-me-a-fisher-woman\/"},"modified":"2022-11-10T10:03:28","modified_gmt":"2022-11-10T14:03:28","slug":"adventures-in-the-dr-me-a-fisher-woman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casadecampoliving.com\/es\/adventures-in-the-dr-me-a-fisher-woman\/","title":{"rendered":"Adventures in the DR: me, a fisher-woman?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DSC03618.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8543\" title=\"DSC03618\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DSC03618.jpg?resize=580%2C448&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC03618\" width=\"580\" height=\"448\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is with 100% certainty that I can announce that I most definitely am NOT a fisherwoman, in fact &#8211; I will never ever set foot on a fishing vessel every again! <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving-wp.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2009\/11\/alexei-fish.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8544\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" title=\"alexei fish\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/alexei-fish-201x300-2.jpg?resize=201%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"alexei fish\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Several Sundays ago, I was invited on a fishing trip by a Russian friend of mine, Alexei.<\/p>\n<p>Following a hearty breakfast of eggs on toast, which I would later regret, we waved good bye to dry land and set our sites on the horizon, in search of &#8230;&#8230;birds. Birds, indeed not exactly what I thought we would be looking for on a fishing trip, but apparently where there are birds, there are also fish &#8211; brilliant!<\/p>\n<p>With our first bird sighting it all got rather exciting &#8211; the captain slowed the boat down, the &#8216;deck-hand&#8217; put out the lines, and the &#8216;fishing&#8217; began &#8211; waiting, sitting and drinking.<\/p>\n<p>However, I started to feel sick, very sick &#8211; and so the sitting and drinking suddenly became sitting and being miserable, a rather unfortunate turn of events! But, then our luck changed &#8211; a line went taunt and the whole boat jumped into action, Alexei positioned himself in the &#8216;fishing seat&#8217; and the battle commenced! Despite the excitement, I still felt sick and refused to believe that we were actually going to catch a fish &#8211; I was convinced he was reeling in some seaweed or an old boot or something&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t until I saw this enormous fish flapping around in the water that I realised that there really was a fish &#8211; and I didn&#8217;t have my camera (my lack of enthusiasm\/nausea precluding my natural reporting\/photographing abilities!) Nevertheless, I did get very excited &#8211; until the poor fish was dragged aboard, flipping and flapping and spraying blood and guts all over the place &#8211; quietened only when the captain beat it over the head with a mallet! Oh the horror! I was stunned! <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving-wp.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2009\/11\/fish-head.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8545\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" title=\"fish head\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casadecampoliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/fish-head-300x183-2.jpg?resize=300%2C183&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"fish head\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rest of the trip did not go well &#8211; with the dead fish lying in it&#8217;s own blood at my feet, my nausea returned and so did my breakfast and all my male companions kept saying was \u00abyou can reel in the next one!\u00bb NEXT ONE &#8211; I just wanted to go home!<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the boys took pity on me and took me to Palmilla, after which we joined one of our Ukranian friends, Dema &#8211; and between them (the Ukranian and the Russian) they gutted the fish (while I recovered in the Jacuzzi) and we all enjoyed a wondeful fish BBQ!<\/p>\n<p>[nggallery id=162]<\/p>\n<p>Please send all fanmail to info@casadecampoliving.com.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Am I really the ONLY person who has these kind of crazy experiences?
