Davidoff’s Tour Gastronomique Art & Gourmet Weekend took place here in Casa de Campo, and I had the privilege of attending the Art & Gourmet Cocktail this past Friday. The evening started at the Davidoff Art Residency in Altos de Chavón, and one could not wish for better weather to accompany outdoor conversations of art with a cigar in hand.
It was a wonderful opportunity to speak with Davidoff Art & Residency artists in their workshops over drinks, snacks and cigars. A lovely selection of cigars was available for attending guest; “Number 2” is a light cigar that pairs well with a glass of champagne, and the Churchill is of medium body and spice. Mostly importantly, at least for me, was the opportunity to try the “Art Limited Edition” cigar from 2014; it’s very hard to get! What a great smoke to have. It is made in bullet shape (one of the most difficult shapes to make a cigar in), and has two designs featuring the artwork of layered tobacco leaves by Dominican artist, Quisqueya Henríquez.
It happens to be one of the favorites of Davidoff’s own CEO, Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard. He was a very exciting person to have a conversation with! The evening was followed by a cocktail dinner at Dye Fore with dishes by Peter Knogl and Anthony Masas. Swiss Chef Peter Knogl brought three Michelin star dishes to Casa de Campo. It is hard to describe how exquisite the cuisine has been: Calamari with potatoes, marinated beef on tapioca chip, strawberry gazpacho and so much more! What a treat; foodie’s paradise!
With a band playing, guests divided into dancers and cigar smokers. For those who wanted to learn about cigars, there was no better place to be! From Davidoff’s own Senior VP, Javier Plantada to all forms of cigar specialists and enthusiasts. Stay tuned for our interview with Davidoff’s CEO Mr. Hoejsgaard coming up in our next issue of CasaLife, who talks about Dominican cigars and company plans here in Dominican republic.
