badgley mischkaThis year the Magical Splendor for Life Gala and Fashion Show was the opening event of the Fundación MIR’s Magical Splendor for Life fundraising weekend, which continued with a golf tournament in the La Romana Country Club golf course and a VIP dinner-dance at Casa Grande.

“Red-carpet fashion” designers, Badgley Mischka presented the eagerly anticipated fashion show, the 3rd time the fashion label, the creation of Mark Badgley and James Mischka has taken part in the Magical Splendor for Life Charity event.

“We do this event because it’s such a great cause. Lian is so passionate about it.”

—— Mark Badgley

“We support children’s charities a lot, education is really important to us, because so many children are underserved and they really need help. The Fundación MIR does a really great job with vocational training.

—— James Mischka

The fashion show, which began as the entrée was served, was typically Badgley Mischka; a collection of unashamedly feminine couture gowns, including formal evening wear, as well as flowing bejeweled “kaftan-style” dresses, with many specially designed to be “constantly in motion” – an affect achieved by the use of ruffles, feathers and long flowing materials.

The current Miss Dominican Republic, Dalía Feranandez took part in the fashion show as a guest model. A beautiful girl, Dalía is certainly more curvy than your average runway model and was able to showcase how a real woman might best “fill out” a Badgley Mischka dress – and boy did she look gorgeous!

At the end of the show, Mark Badgley and James Mischka took to the runway themselves, escorted by Dalía Fernandez – and received rapturous applause from the impressed audience.

With many Casa de Campo ladies and guests, including president and founder of the Fundación MIR, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, choosing Badgley Mischka as their gown for the evening, the designs of Badgley Mischka were seen showcased both on and off the runway – making it a very fashionable evening all round!

“It’s always fun to see women having a good time and enjoying the clothes – that’s always a big thrill for us, and Lian who James and I personally adore, she and her daughter [Lyanne Azqueta] had our outfits on last night too, which is just great.”

—— Mark Badgley
