Alfonso Paniagua, Kathy and Rick McDanielLast Thursday 13th of March, Rick McDaniel, founder of the McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tennis Tournament hosted a gorgeous sunset cocktail in Los Altos, a gesture to show his appreciation to the many sponsors of the event which this year raised over US$50,000 for the cause. The group of more than 50 Casa de Campo villa owners, each wearing a name tag (something which proved rather useful), enjoyed cocktails and picaderas around the pool between buildings 5 and 6 in Los Altos, a magical moment that glowed pink as the last light of the day shone on the gathering. In additional to Rick McDaniel and his wife Kathy, also taking part in the celebration was the tournament’s organizing committee; Rick McDaniel, Tom Wahl, Rebecca Hughes (me!), Emilio Vásquez, Lynn Robinson, Lou Gilmore, Stan Couldrey, Pablo Green, Adonis Siervodedios, and Phyllis Berney, who were all also very grateful for the support of the community in helping to make the 2014 McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tennis Tournament the most successful yet! Salvatore Moscatello, Patricia MoscatelloMeanwhile special guest at the celebration was our dear friend Patricia Moscatello, whose husband Harry Moscatello passed away last April. As a loved, enthusiastic and dedicated member of the tournament committee for many years, Harry is greatly missed. In loving memory of Harry, Rick McDaniel presented a plaque to Patricia, who was joined by Harry’s brother Salvatore. “Harry’s dedication and enthusiastic efforts were deeply appreciated and he will always be remembered by everyone”, reads the plaque. Following the cocktail, the 9th annual McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tennis Tournament was fought out between the teaching pro’s of the La Romana Country Club and the La Terraza Tennis Club… until on Sunday afternoon the 16th of March, Pedro Nolasco was crowned the champion. The McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tennis Tournament is the principal fundraising effort for the Ball Boy’s Scholarship Foundation, which sponsors the education of more than 20 ball boys and girls, provides English lessons to the players and ball boys, as well as starting this year health insurance. Congratulations and a big THANK YOU to all involved!
