The extraordinary four day golf tournament came to a close on Saturday April 2nd and brought together some of the world’s most interesting and successful men and women who love to play golf and tennis, and are eager to support the Fundacion MIR. The 31st Sugar Golf Tournament hosted by Alfonso “Alfy” Fanjul ended with a dinner-dance party at the La Romana Country Club.
Arriving at the LRCC for the party and prize giving ceremony with the pressure of the competition behind them, golfers had the opportunity to relax, drink and get on the dance floor! When walking in they first encountered the MIR Bazaar which filled the clubhouse with booths from local and international vendors and all kinds of tempting products. A portion of all sales from the bazaar went to benefit Fundación MIR.
After a little browsing and shopping, guests sipped on cocktails by the pool, with numerous “first timers” to the Sugar Golf Tournament mingling with veterans who have competed for three decades. The atmosphere was very friendly and fun. During the buffet style dinner, Alfy Fanjul took the opportunity to once again welcome and thank his guests, happy to have had another great year.
Along with the help of his daughters, Crista Ryan and Lilian Fernandez, he presented the numerous prizes to the winners. First up, were the ladies from the Sugar Tennis Tournament, followed by ladies golf, and last but not least men’s golf. Women took home an array of prizes, from paintings to beautiful jewelry by Everett Designs, and men were endowed with custom-made suits by Bespoke Cocktail for the winners of the golf gross category!
After the awards were given out and all the fabulous pictures captured, the band quickly set up for a lively evening surrounding the pool that had everyone on their feet and dancing the night away!
It was a wonderful event to end an extraordinary weekend!
