We know it’s only Tuesday, but what are your plans for the weekend? Start planning now with this great getaway option – Sail away to Catalina or Saona aboard the Quetzal and Cata Excursions!

What is the Quetzal?

Captain Bernard, a graduate of La Rochelle sailing school in France, designed the Quetzal to share his passion for the sea in a friendly, safe, and comfortable environment. The Quetzal is a luxury catamaran built in 2013 that is perfect for relaxing and sunbathing in an afternoon trip on the water. The boat can accommodate up to 50 passengers, but for quality comfort the Cata Excursions team decided to limit the maximum of daily passengers to 25. The catamaran is complete with 6 cabins including 3 with a private bathroom, 5 WC, 1 open kitchen, 1 living room, 1 protected outdoor sun lounge, outdoor speakers for music, 2 swimming platforms with bathing ladders and showers at the back, 1 large sunbathing surface, Wi-Fi connection and complete snorkel equipment.

Trips

Cata Excursions offers three types of trips: Day trips to Saona and Catalina, private day trips, and 1 overnight with 2 day trips.

During the trips to Saona, you board the Quetzal around 8:30am and then sail for an hour and a half to the island.  Once there, you’re able to enjoy one of the most beautiful and crystalline beaches of the Dominican Republic. Lunch is served by a local restaurant after which you can relax on the hammocks, sun loungers and canopy beds.  A few hours later, the Quetzal will sail to Catuano where snorkelers can observe a wide range of tropical fish, not far away is Las Palmillas, a natural swimming pool where you are sure to spot giant starfishes, but remember don’t take them out of the water! Drinks and refreshments are served in the water before a smooth sail back to Bayahibe along the coast.

On the other hand, when you choose to sail to Catalina boarding is at 9am. After sailing for an hour to the island of Catalina, you’ll be able to snorkel “The Wall”, and admire the beautiful coral reefs. You’ll also enjoy a delicious meal on board while viewing “the aquarium” before taking a nice relaxing walk on the beach, sun bathing, or snorkeling more. The Quetzal leaves the island around 3pm back to Bayahibe. On the way back you’ll have the luxury of cruising along the coast of Casa de Campo and end the day sailing the river Chavon!
