Venezuelan patron Victor Vargas and his team did it once again, winning its sixth consecutive title in the Dominican Republic since the Polo Challenge started in 2016. The big day kicked off at 2pm with the subsidiary finals between Sebucan HPA and Cinque Terre. The first half of the match was favorable for the Canadian team, but Cinque Terre turned the game around in the fourth chukka and dominated every period. The final score was 13-11 to the Italians.
Next up at 4pm, was the much awaited final, streamed live on ESPN – the game could be seen throughout the Americas, from Patagonia to Canada so those who couldn’t come to the game could still live the excitement of the tournament. Lechuza, showcasing stars David Stirling and Juan Martín Nero, vs Casa de Campo. Lechuza was able to take the lead from the very start and by half-time the difference was already quite wide, 6-2 in favor of the Venezuelans.
During the brake, the public enjoyed a colorful parade of Diablos Cojuelos, who posed with them for pictures. The Silver Cup in Casa de Campo was so much fun to celebrate, since it not only was a battle for the cup but also a celebration of our Dominican heritage. The game ended with a 10-5 score and Victor Vargas’ team was crowned champion once again. Juan Martin Nero was named MVP of the match, and his mare Tana was chosen as BPP.
The day closed, as usual, with a fun After-Polo party for all guests live music, sponsored by American Express and Banco del Progreso.
