We all love necklaces. We have them in all sizes and colors and we never have enough. We know that with a necklace we complement or complete a look but, how to know what necklace is right for your body? In order to make it easier for you to pick one that has the right length for you, here I share some tips with you.
The first thing you have to do is to measure your neck’s circumference and add two more inches to it. That would be the length of the perfect necklace for you, and from that measure, you can play with the different types of necklaces for you to look fabolous.
Amongst the most used types of necklaces we have:
Collar: this necklace has a length of 14″ and is worn fastened to the neck above the collarbone.
Choker: with a length of 14″ – 16″, this goes just a tip above the collarbone.
Princess: this one has a length of 18″ and falls right on the collarbone.
Matinee: has a length of 20″ – 22″ and falls under the collarbone and goes right above the bust.
Opera: length of 30″ is used under the bust.
Lariat: With a length of 36″ or more and sometimes it doesn’t have a zip, in that case it’s called Rope and it has one or several rounds around the neck.
Now that you know the different types of necklaces we just have one thing left to do, and that is picking the right one acording to your height. The necklace will have a flattering effect if worn proportinally to your body. This doesn’t mean petite ladies can’t use long necklaces, it’s just a matter of wearing the correct length.
What necklace goes according to your height?
- If you’re less than 5’4″ tall, don’t wear necklaces longer than 20″.
- If you’re around 5’4″ – 5’7″ tall you can wear any type of necklace from the choker to the lariat.
- If you’re more than 5’7″ tall, avoid the choker and the “bib” necklaces.
Remember that more important than to follow these rules is wearing what you like and what makes you feel good. After all, in the fashion world, rules were made to be broken. Just be yourself and shine!
Don’t miss my next tip, where I’ll show you how to mix the different types of necklaces with the different types of cleavages.
