Following Jennifer Lopez’s impressive performance in Altos de Chavón just two days ago, the superstar arrived to the Fundación MIR schools earlier today with a bright smile on her face to meet and greet La Romana’s esteemed charity. She was ecstatic to see students and first said hello to a team of young baseball players from the school, who were there no doubt to show their admiration and enthusiasm for Alex Rodriguez who accompanied Jennifer to MIR. She amicably made her way through a tour of the school with Lian Fanjul, founder and president of Fundación MIR, and Lyanne Azqueta, executive director, along with Alfy and Raysa Fanjul before joining a large assembly in the school’s multi-purpose room.
With press galore, J.Lo drew attention from every angle as she sat and listened to two students perform her song “No me ames” that debuted in 1999 as part of her first studio album, On the 6. A duet she performed with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, the song was well received by her, and she gave a great big hug to both students who sang it. It must be quite nerve-racking to perform in front of such a distinguished celebrity who just rocked nearly a full house in the Altos de Chavón amphitheater! – kudos to the Fundación MIR students!
Jennifer and Alex donated over 400 backpacks and school supplies to the foundation and passed them out to the youngest students who looked especially adorable in their uniforms holding neon backpacks. J.Lo was joined by her manager Benny Medina, who before the big couple’s arrival took time to speak with Alfy Fanjul about Casa de Campo’s interesting history, the pair noting that Altos de Chavón’s amphitheater was inaugurated by Frank Sinatra. Manager Edgar Andino, who Gamal Hache worked closely with to bring J.Lo to the country, was also in attendance and spoke highly of the resort’s venue and that it was the first time Jennifer had performed in an outdoor amphitheater.
This happens to be her first trip to the Dominican Republic, but with a busy schedule J.Lo and company head back to the states today. The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 that provides a home, medical care, education and technical studies for the community’s most impoverished children, and with three schools: a School for Girls, School for Boys, and Elementary School support over 1,500 students. It was clear both J.Lo and A.Rod enjoyed their visit to the Fundación MIR, affectionately hugging and smiling throughout. We wish them a safe return home!
