Celebrating a succesful “Clean-up Day” in La Romana-Bayahibe area as part of World Environment Day!

Last Tuesday June the 5th 2012, as part of the events celebrated on the World Environment Day, the La Romana- Bayahibe Hotels Association (LRBHA), the La Romana- Bayahibe Cluster (LRBC), along with 100 volunteers, enjoyed a succesful “Clean-up Day”, held in many of the beaches located in the La Romana-Bayahibe area!

During the event, the tourists, as well as members of the community, celebrated a fun “Clean-Up Day” when many activities were held not only on this day (the 5th of June) but throughout the entire week, with numerous activities which involved cleaning and planting of trees in different areas of La Romana-Bayahibe, including; Bayahibe Beach, Dominicus Beach, the road between Bayahibe and Dominicus and the area around Hotel Be Live Canoa.

In these areas, the participants gathered 150 bags of waste materials, a sum which is fortunately less than previous years – testament to the success of previous events, which not only have people collecting rubbish, but also helps promote the importance of protecting our environment and natural resources.

An opening celebration took place at the Hotel Be Live Canoa collection centre, which will act as a collection and disposal point for classified waste material. The new recycling center will allow materials to be stored following the “3R rule”, (recycle, reduce, re-use), and also has a cold room to help conserve organic materials.

Among the participants of these extraordinary activities, were members of the LRBHA, LRBCA, Fundemar, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Tourism, the Bayahibe City Council, Hotel Be Live Canoa, Hotel Viva Wyndham Dominicus, Hotel Catalonia Gran Dominicus, Hotel Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, Hotel Dreams la Romana, Parque Nacional del Este, Fundación Río Chavón, among others.
