Allegra Fanjul, niece of Lian Fanjul de Azqueta founder of the Fundación MIR is this week taking part in the MIR Bazaar for the first time – with her exclusive collection of jewelry “Allegra Fanjul Designs”.
And so with Allegra currently vacationing in Casa de Campo we grabbed a few minutes of her time to bring you an interview with the young designer, who, despite having only graduated last year already counts celebrities such as Olivia Wilde and Maria Shriver amongst her clients.
@cdcliving: When and why did you decide to start designing jewelry?
I can’t really remember exactly when I decided to start designing jewelry; I do know I was really young. I have always been obsessed with fashion and jewelry. Growing up, I was always drawing clothes or using my dad’s extra fishing wire to string along plastic beads into bracelets and necklaces. In December 2001, I started selling my jewelry with two friends for the New Hope Charities’ Annual Holiday Bazaar held in Palm Beach, Florida. I continued selling it at the Bazaar until I went to college in 2008. To this day my passion still remains making jewelry. I also started a style blog in 2012 (www.veryallegra.com), I style my jewelry with outfits for different occasions.

@cdcliving: What inspires you?
It is more of who inspires me rather than what. My grandmother, on my father’s side, has always been a huge inspiration in my creativity. Even though I do not remember her, the pictures and stories I have seen and heard over my lifetime inspire me the most. She was a petite woman but loved big jewelry. Her taste in jewelry relates so much to my own.
@cdcliving: How would you describe your style?
Truthfully, I would describe it as Very Allegra (the name of my style blog). I don’t really have a specific style, I like to mix it up. For example, if I am going to a cocktail party, my style might be more classic and girly, if I am going to the beach I am more bohemian, and if I am going out with friends I may be a bit more edgy. This is one of the reasons why I decided to name my blog Very Allegra, because it really showcases my unique style.
@cdcliving: In what situations can your jewelry be worn?
I believe that my jewelry can be worn with just about anything. I wear it with anything from a bathing suit to the beach to fancy dresses for a black tie event. Most pieces are very versatile and can be mix and matched for any occasion.
@cdcliving: Do you have any famous clients?
Olivia Wilde and Maria Shriver both own Allegra Fanjul originals.
@cdcliving: Where are you designs currently on sale?
Currently, my jewelry is for sale at A Squared Boutique in West Palm Beach, Florida and online at www.AllegraFanjul.com
@cdcliving: What do you see for the future of your designs?
In the future, I hope to grow into a larger company and have my jewelry carried in more boutiques and department stores.

@cdcliving: Any plans to design clothes?
Currently, I have no plans to design clothes. I would however like to maybe design handbags and/or shoes one day to expand Allegra Fanjul Designs into more accessories. I also am very interested in styling. I am always styling my mom and sister and now with Veryallegra.com I can help style others.
@cdcliving: What makes your pieces unique?
I like to make large, statement jewelry, mostly one-of-a-kind necklaces. I seek out vintage stores and jewelry shows to find vintage pendants and brooches to make each piece I create unique in its own way.
@cdcliving: Why did you decide to take part in the MIR Bazaar?
I have always wanted to be a vendor and participate in the MIR Bazaar, but with my previous school schedule it has always been hard to get down to Casa de Campo for the Bazaar weekend. I graduated in December 2012 from Florida Atlantic University and was pleased to know I could finally be able to come for the MIR Bazaar.
@cdcliving: Why should others support the MIR Bazaar?
People should support the MIR Bazaar because it supports such a great charity. MIR Charities has always had a place close to my heart, not only because my beautiful aunt, Lian, started it, but because I love everything it does to help the families and children in the Domincan Republic.

@cdcliving: Where are your favorite Casa de Campo spots?
My favorite spots in Casa de Campo include:
• Altos de chavon: I love the church, the cobblestones, and the view. It is truly a breathtaking place.
• Teeth of the Dog at Sunset: The view of the sun going down over the ocean is so serene.
• Playas Minitas: Who doesn’t like a day at the beach. I will never forget the first time I ordered a virgin Pina Colada and it came in a full pineapple I thought it was so cool!
