Only in the DR – Beware of Goat

Submitted by Rebecca on October 1, 2009 – 8 Comments

suicidal goat

This week’s photograph was provided by Gladys Rijo, who unfortunately was unable to provide us with any additional information as to the whereabouts of this poor goat, or as to what exactly it was doing on the roof, which leads us to speculate about said goat…

  • perhaps he is looking for food (he didn’t want to share so thought a derelict roof was the best roof – come solo!)
  • maybe he got lost while looking for food.
  • he’s a fugitive on the run from the zealous Dominican police force.
  • or most probably his ‘owners’ decided the roof would be the best place to keep their goat, until they decide to “have him for dinner” on a special occasion, he got wind of this plan and is attempting to escape.

Do you have any better theories? Let us know, leave your comments below!

On a personal note, I think that this is a funny and light hearted look at some of the eccentricities of the DR, which is meant to simply poke fun at some of the more amusing things that can be seen from time to time in the DR. Furthermore, this is based completely on contributions of Casa de Campo Living readers, which is to say that all entries are welcome!

@ Carpintero and @ Leidi – if you would like to participate with your only “Only in the DR” contributions, please feel free to take your own photos and/or stories and submit them to onlyinthedr@casadecampoliving.com. Additionally, if you feel strongly about promoting or sharing a specific aspect of the Dominican Republic, your contributions, by way of articles or images, are very much welcome!

That Goat is what we like to call a GUACHI (security). He is taking care of his owner’s home from the top of his own personal watch tower! Great photo :)

Mr. Carpintero, after reading your comment, i’ve come to realize two things..
    1. Its a goat on a roof we are talking about… therefore no need to stress over it :p
    2. However, if it is YOUR goat we are talking about, you have my permissison to go on and on about the goat on the roof
    Thanks :)

  • This picture is just one more reason why the dominican community is so special and unique, we find humour in the simplest things- things that would annoy people from other cultures. There’s no need to think we’re downgrading ourselves by putting this picture up; in fact I think we’re celebrating our true essence and everyone knows que el dominicano goza con to’.

    Kudos to Gladys.
