Last month a new and exciting place opened up in the centre of La Romana: Pointé Centro de Danzas, a newly renovated dance school.

Casa de Campo Living were lucky enough to be invited along to the studio to have a look around at all their brand new facilities and we even had a go at a dance class ourselves!

DSC01886The main entrance to the studio has a dance equipment shop with all kinds of dance shoes and outfits as well as a spacious and comfortable waiting area; perfect for parents waiting to drop off or pick up their children.

Beyond the main entrance lies the rest of the dance school; 2 dance studios with wall to wall mirrors, perfect for perfecting your technique, male and female changing areas and bathrooms as well as a cute music room with piano and guitar equipment.

The whole school is nicely laid out and decorated perfectly and with the friendly smiles of the owners; Alejandra and Rosalba Moreno as well as the dance instructors and other staff, you instantly feel at ease and ready to dance!

When we were there we saw an advanced ballet class in progress, which looked very professional (and challenging) with PA020100young children and ladies dancing beautifully side by side. We also saw a Spanish dance class in progress, which was simply fascinating; the girls were all wearing beautiful Spanish dancing outfits and perfecting moves which looked so graceful and intricate that I was mesmerized.

The Salsa class we did was great fun; as we were a mix of abilities we did a range of activities ranging from perfecting the basic step to more complex spins as well as developing what Salseros refer to as ’style’ – fluid hand movements and steps beyond the basics which create dynamic in the dance.

The school offers a wide range of dance classes in the mornings and in the evenings;

  • Salsa
  • Belly Dance
  • Spanish Dance
  • Ballet
  • Jazz/Hip hop
  • Zumba/Latin rhythms (a type of dance/aerobics class)

As well as dance classes the school also offers:

  • Taekwondo
  • Acting
  • Guitar
  • Piano
  • Yoga

Classes coming soon:

  • Modeling
  • Plastic arts
  • English tutoring
