25th Annual Altos de Chavon Design School Fashion Show

Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavon Graduating Class of 2009

This Saturday, the 23rd of May, I attended the 25th annual fashion show presented by the students of the Altos de Chavon School of Design and I was not disappointed. The event was very well organized, whilst the actual fashion show was very impressive, the students’ designs were original and inventive and yet refreshingly wearable. The event was held in the Salón Flamboyán at Casa de Campo’s convention center, which had been nicely laid out with nibbles and drinks for the guests to enjoy before the show began, giving everyone the chance to socialize and enjoy the music, which was an interesting mix – a DJ and a live violinist.

dscf3803This year the students were working with the theme of the Bauhaus (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bauhaus_(escuela)) bold primary colors, a homage to the Bauhaus motto, and so the fashion show ran in three distinct sections, divided by the colours; yellow, blue and red. On display in the ‘yellow’ and ‘red’ sections were a stunning collection of ladies evening gowns, which I was particularly interested in, designs which were both creative but not outrageous as well as being flattering and thoughtfully designed to suit all body shapes, there were certainly several dresses which given the chance I would have bought and taken home then and there (although maybe in a larger size!) The blue section was unsurprisingly a collection of males clothing and once I stopped admiring the actual models, I could appreciate the styles and designs they were displaying to be imaginative and modern. All the designs were as promised; simple, modern, classic cuts celebrating the elegant proportions and irresistible geometry of the Bauhaus.

The show was a huge success and each and every design was very impressive, I am sure that this is just the beginning of very successful careers for the 15 graduating design students and I wish them every success and look forward to seeing more of their designs in the future.
