The Kitchen at Papa Jacks reopens

Submitted by Mr Casa on March 8, 2009 – One Comment

Though we dearly miss Chef Carlos, whose unique flavors brought something special to dinning in Altos de Chavon, this does not by any means imply that we are not excited about the reopening of the Kitchen. So the other day we finally headed up to Papa Jacks for a quick bite, which was flavourful and quite nice. Being able to eat overlooking the square, the church and the Chavon river can surprisingly enough still excite us long time residents – this is the real beauty of lunch at Papa Jacks.

The Menu for The Kitchen at Papa JacksThe menu is unique and has a surprising amount, for a restaurant in the Dominican Republic, of non-fried or overly calorie intensive dishes. Hey, its the year 2009 and we still remember our New Year’s resolutions, so lighter fare is always appreciated. Items like the Tropical Salad, the Octopus Salad and a fresh fish of the day are items that we look forward to trying.

Of course, should you be in the mood for something a little more hearty, the Kitchen at Papa Jacks is sure to please, with a whole section of plates for two (or more), as well as some beefier dishes, like a nice churrasco or burger. Like most places in Chavon, they also offer a lunch special ‘plato del dia’ which consists of a rice, beans and typically a piece of fish or meat.

A quick word on the service – it was good, strike that – very good. Nothing out of this world, but the waiter was courteous, knowledgeable, profesional and quick; and as we all know, this is always appreciated.

Have you tried the food at the Kitchen at Papa Jacks? Share your thoughts and comments with us and with the rest of our readers!  Share with us your recommendations, experiences or just leave a note.
