Submitted by Rebecca on March 30, 2009 – One Comment

top3The 5th annual fishing tournament, held in aid of the Fundacion Ferries del Caribe (FDC) headed by Carlos Alemany, was held here in Casa de Campo on the weekend of the 19th to the 22nd of March. Over 25 fishing boats, from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico took part in this charitable event. The Fundacion Ferries del Caribe fishing tournament is a game fishing tournament, participants were hoping to catch fish such as Dorado and Wahoo, as well as Billfish.

The fishing boats left the Casa de Campo marina early on the Saturday and Sunday mornings of the 21st and 22nd of March. Sea conditions on the Saturday were rough and some boats had a disappointing day of fishing, however sea conditions on the Sunday were far more pleasant and a successful and enjoyable day of fishing ensued. Overall, it was a weekend of extreme excitement and enjoyment, where participants, including renowned entrepreneurs, lovers of fishing, and personalities, both from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic showed off their talent for fishing and their desire to help this noble cause.

The Fundacion Ferries del Caribe was founded in 1999, by Néstor González to help build households in the extremely poor area of the Batey Isabela Province in Barahona. Before the Foundation began it’s fantastic work most people living in this area were living in mud houses, the aim of the Fundacion Ferries del Caribe is to convert Batey Isabela into a town of at least 500 concrete houses. All proceeds from this tournament went to the Fundacion Ferries del Caribe Charity, to enable them to continue their fabulous work in the Batey Isabela Province.
